About a year and a half ago I discovered Ana White and have been wanting to build her farmhouse bed ever since (among many other things). My husband was dragging his feet. He is a man. He hates change. And he didn't want to get rid of the headboard he's had forever.
To make a long story short, I eventually won and got to work on our new bed.
It's a fairly basic design using just construction grade lumber. It's actually quite pretty unpainted...but oh well.
Painted, sanded and stained.
We ditched our mattress and box spring for a new memory foam mattress, so I built this bed as a platform bed. 
Naturally, the bed project turned into a nightstand project which turned into a dresser project.I had to make my husband's nightstand really small because his side of the bed also has to accommodate our dresser.
